The Hal 'o' the Wynd is a large, white painted, three storey building dating back some three hundred plus years and has a lot of historical interest. The building is located opposite the ferry terminal and across the road from the vehicle entrance and exit of the terminal on Newton Street, Stornoway.
Newton Street was once known as "Captains Row" and is mentioned in the book "A shilling for your scowl" the history of a Scottish legal mafia by James Shaw Grant.
